Without doubt, Cuba’s main capital resource is her people. The Cubans have a unique approach toward life, or let’s say to everyday life. They are social, communicative easily; ready to have fun; and the party is always around the corner. You meet two Cubans and always, from somewhere appear a bottle of Rum, a guitar o percussion thing and the party is there.
These peculiarities have been exacerbated by 50 years of revolution, and an almost as long economic blockade by her big Northern neighbour which have results in and endless economic shortages. Now President Barak Obama has signalled he might lift the restrictions for Americans to travel to the islands. In Cuba this is arising great expectations. So far the Cuban authorities have recognized that tourism is the main source of income to the country. So far the country receives 2,3 million tourist a year. That number could be multiplied in a few years if the restrictions are lifted.
In the mean time, the Americans want very much to travel to tropical Cuba. For them it has been, for too long, the forbidden fruit. The Cubans on the other hand, keep waiting in their stoic way, with a charming smile on their lips.

Kuubalaisten hurmaava hymy

Kuuban tärkein pääoma on ilman muuta sen ihmiset. Kuubalaisilla on ainutlaatuinen tapa suhtautua elämään, tai täsmällisemmin sanottuna arkipäivän elämään. He ovat sosiaalista väkeä, kommunikoiminen heidän kanssaan on helppoa. He ovat aina valmiita pitämään hauskaa, ja juhla odottaa aina kulman takana. Jos sinä tapaat kaksi kuubalaista, pian jostakin ilmestyy pullo rommia, kitara tai rummut, ja juhla on pystyssä.
Tämä ominaisuus on jalostunut entisestään 50 vuotta kestäneen vallankumouksen aikana, ja melkein yhtä pitkään on jatkunut USA:n julistama taloussaarto, jonka seurauksena on ollut jatkuva taloudellinen ahdinko. Nyt Presidentti Obama on antanut ymmärtää, että hänen hallituskaudellaan on aikomus lopettaa rajoitukset amerikkalaisten Kuuban-matkailussa. Kuubassa tätä kehitystä seurataan henkeä pidätellen. Maan viranomaiset myöntävät nyt, että turismi on sen tärkein tulolähde. Viime vuonna Kuubassa vieraili peräti 2,3 miljoonaa turistia, joukossa 6600 suomalaista. Tuo määrä voi jopa tuplaantua nopeasti, jos amerikkalaiset saavat matkustaa vapaasti.
Juuri nyt amerikkalaiset haluavat kovasti matkustaa Kuuban. Saari on ollut heille pitkään kielletty hedelmä. Kuubalaiset odottavat stoalaisen tyynesti, hurmaava hymy kasvoillaan.
